Sparkling blue waters, pristine beaches, stunning views and adorable wildlife are just some of the must sees at Rottnest Island. Just a ferry or a quick plane ride away, there’s so much for the whole family to enjoy this summer at this slice of paradise. We’ve put together the perfect itinerary for the perfect day at Rottnest.
Start nice and early and seize the day! There are multiple ferries that depart from Hillarys Boat Harbour, Barrack Street Jetty, Fremantle (B Shed) and Fremantle (Northport). The B Shed Terminal will get you to Rottnest the fastest, but if you want to take in the scenery you can depart from the Barrack Street Jetty Terminal. Bookings are essential as spaces fill up quickly.
Head straight to Pedal & Flipper as soon as you arrive on the island to hire a bike! As Rottnest is a no-car destination, bikes are the quickest way to get around. You can choose from electric bikes or normal bikes. These range from $30 to $70 for the day.
Fuel up for the day and grab a quick bite at Rottnest Bakery. This bakery has been an institution for many visitors. Serving up freshly baked pastries, desserts, sandwiches and coffees, this is the perfect spot to get a treat before you head off on your biking adventure.
Start your ride and head West to Parakeet Bay or South to Porpoise Bay for a great quiet spot perfect for snorkelling in crystal clear water. If snorkelling isn’t for you, these beaches are the perfect spot to relax on the white sand with your favourite book.
From the classic, Hotel Rottnest to more upscale venues like Lontara and Isola Bar e Cibo, be spoilt for choice come lunchtime. There are many lunch spots you can visit at the main settlement. Grab yourself some classic fish and chips and enjoy it in the sun.
After lunch, head out to Pinky’s Beach and laze by the sun and go for a swim and spend a couple of hours here. The very calm and crystal clear water is great for snorkelling and swimming. This little slice of paradise is not to be missed.
After a couple of relaxing hours at the beach, take the steps up to Pinky’s Beach Club and enjoy a cocktail or two whilst the sun goes down. The beach has a cool view of the Bathurst Lighthouse and you can spend the rest of your time here soaking in the beauty of Rottnest!
After drinks at Pinky’s, it’s time to make your way back to the main settlement. This will give you ample time to return your bike and catch your breath before hopping on the ferry and returning home.
